Invest in Women: Well-Being at Any Age
In Women and Wealth

We are grateful and honored to have cultivated such a remarkable community of women who attend Coldstream’s Invest in Women events. We hope everyone came away from our most recent event, Healthy Aging, as inspired and informed as we did. The discussion centered on what for many may be sensitive and intimate issues, and it was uplifting to see that the atmosphere remained one of openness, inquiry, curiosity, and sharing.
A Lasting Impact
A long-time Coldstream client shared the story of how and why she helped fund the creation of the Swedish Gynecological Specialty Center, a health clinic focused on midlife women’s health. It was her own frustration with general practitioners who dismissed symptoms like hot flashes, anxiety, and joint pain as “just aging” that prompted her to be part of developing a different avenue for women seeking health guidance. Her charitable gifts have made a lasting impact on the center, and she is proud to have supported this clinic that is providing women with personalized health solutions as they transition through midlife.
Managing Health Through the Aging Process
Keynote speaker Dr. Dina Gordon’s practice focuses on midlife women’s health and menopause. She is known by her colleagues and patients for her ability to skillfully combine straight talk with compassion and humor (as well as for taking cold plunges and playing the fiddle!). Dr. Gordon offered her expertise on the symptoms that often bring women to the clinic, sharing some of the solutions and treatments that are available, as well as tools for prevention and alleviation at home. She discussed strategies to help improve long-term health outcomes, such as increasing protein intake, engaging in strength training, and getting adequate sleep. Dr. Gordon emphasized that there is no one-size-fits-all approach and that it’s important to work with a healthcare provider to build an individualized treatment plan based on symptoms and risk factors.
Dr. Gordon addressed more than just the physical aspects of aging, noting that events like menopause are a neurological transition as well. She said that it’s critical to acknowledge that the hormonal shifts that come with aging can change one’s personality, tolerances, and emotional regulation. She discussed the need for education for women and their partners as well as broader community support.
Not all medical providers are knowledgeable about the health issues and challenges facing women in midlife and the treatment options available. Dr. Gordon noted that Menopause Society-certified clinicians (MSCP) may be more open and aware of these topics. She encouraged patients to self-advocate and be willing to seek out alternate providers if they encounter resistance or dismissal.
Finding Empowerment in Community
It is through building networks and sharing ideas that we create and find solutions to all of the challenges we face, be they health issues, financial challenges, or other life hurdles. Coldstream’s Women & Wealth Group is intended to foster just this type of network, creating a community in which we can support and empower one another, while sharing much-needed conversations on the issues facing women today.
We hope that guests were able to build and deepen connections with each other. Coldstream is committed to helping to continue these dialogues beyond our keynote events, and we are hosting periodic structured networking/discussion groups. If you are interested in joining one, please reach out to Becky Wilcox at becky.wilcox@coldstream.com or Vonie Bright at vonie.bright@coldstream.com.
We’d like to express our deepest gratitude to everyone who was part of making this such a powerful and impactful evening: the speakers, the organizers, and the guests. Together, we can do amazing things.
Investing in Women
We are looking forward to continuing to build on our momentum as we plan future Invest in Women events. Our goal is to foster this as a forum for education, connection, inspiration, and empowerment. Coldstream’s mission is to enhance people’s lives, and our Women & Wealth Initiative is a key pillar of that effort.
