A liquidity event’s success rested on a strategic mindset.  Pat hesitated to accept the fair market price offered for his family’s long-held business. He was concerned that, after capital gains taxes, what remained would not meet his family’s needs.

We worked with the investment banker to structure the sale so our client could defer paying the tax over several years. We also provided other tax-planning options to help preserve his gains, and designed an investment strategy that now more than meets his cash flow requirements. After working through these issues with Coldstream, the seller felt more comfortable with the multiple that the buyer was willing to pay for his company.
