3 Generations of Wealth: An Ask the Expert Podcast

In Family Needs, Wealth Strategy

Contributions from: Anne Marie Stonich, CFP®, CPA

The way you think about, manage, and utilize money changes during the course of your life; what is important at age 90 is not the same as what drove you at age 21. In this podcast, we get a rare glimpse into the financial lives of three different generations from the same family. Coldstream Chief Client Experience Officer Anne Marie Stonich, CFP®, CPA, invites her 90-year-old father and 21-year-old daughter to join a discussion about their perspectives on saving, spending, and the value of money.

Betsy Stonich is a barista and student at the University of Washington; she is navigating early adulthood while working to launch a career in filmmaking. Bob Kessler is retired, enjoying the time and freedom to paddleboard on the lake and play pickleball with friends, but most importantly, to be working toward breaking the world record for oldest water skier. Anne Marie hosts this lively discussion, weaving her own experience amid questions for her dad and daughter, shining a spotlight on how things change financially over the course of 70 years. Bob and Betsy candidly share their thoughts on how they developed their attitudes toward money, what important lessons formed the foundation of their financial approaches, and what advice they would have for other generations. Their experiences offer a window into financial planning for different life stages, illustrating the importance of adapting your approach as your priorities change.
